Still busy

Here is the latest project that I completed this week.  The disappearing nine patches are made with Moda's "Candy Kisses" with a design from "Love is in th Air" doing a fantastic job of backing the piece.  I think it works well personally.

This quilt will be sent of to an unsuspecting recipient tomorrow so I can't say any more about it.  I just hope they like it!

This leaves me one more quilt to make for the out-laws, I mean, for the in-laws for Christmas.  I really must get a move on with it in order to ensure it's completed in time.  It's a good job they don't read this blog really, isn't it, otherwise it wouldn't be much of a surprise!

Monday Weigh-In: Week 26

One pound lost this week.

Only a pound.

Just a pound.

I'm just back to where I was a couple of weeks ago and boy oh boy am I getting frustrated with being stuck around here.

I'm going nowhere fast and it's starting to get to me. After all, I've been doing this for half a year now and I still have another two stones to lose.

I feel I'm never going to get there.

Feeling despondent.

And feeling like I
need chocolate.

But I won't.

Because then I'll feel even more poopy.

And I don't like feeling poopy.

Perhaps next week will be better?

Hopefully.

The things they say

It's December!

It's 24 days until Jesus' birthday and we're playing Christmas carols over breakfast to celebrate.

Sid's got it ever-so-slightly but ever-so-sweetly wrong though.

Here is his version of "A Partridge in a Pear Tree":

"Five gold rings,
Four calling birds,
Three french hens,
Two turtle doves
And a Patrick in a pear tree!"

Monday Weigh-In: Week 25

Stuck.

Stayed the same.

Didn't move.

I have to admit I'm getting very disheartened at the extremely slow rate of loss lately, and it's getting slower and slower. I was hoping to use the January sales to be able to treat myself to clothes which would fit either at (or at least very near) to my goal weight. It doesn't look like that's going to happen unless there's something short of a miracle (which I wouldn't mind)... or sickness and diarrhoea. Which I don't want. Thank you.

On the positive side, I am at the lowest weight I've been since after the birth of Harry who is almost seven. I have definitely changed shape and more people are noticing which is very nice and gives me great encouragement.

If I can make it below the ten stone mark by the end of the year I shall be jumping for joy. So that's my new mini goal.

Monday Weigh-In: Week 24

Late again. This is becoming a terrible habit, I see. I know I must try harder but this week has been eventful and not in a good way, so I'll start my entry by asking for prayers even though I can't go into details.

Anyway, it's a gain of a pound which seems about the norm for this time if you look back upon the journey. We'll blame water retention and not my erratic eating habits of the week.

There was also the big bowl of buttercream icing Stephanie had left over due to misreading the ingredients and making a double amount to that she actually needed. This was lethal for dipping your fingers into each time you opened the fridge door, I can tell you! Yes, dipping our fingers in it. What can I say? We are filthy creatures! But, oh so lovely!

So, anyway, enough about buttercream icing and back to the reason for the post.

Plus 1lb.

Gutted.

Sneak Peek Complete

Last week I posted a sneak peek into one of the quilts I was making.

Well, it's finished and I'm really pleased with how it has turned out.

I made the design up as I went along. If anyone would like the pattern let me know and I'll come up with something for you.

I started out with the urge to use pinwheels. I ended up with twelve of them making the centre of the quilt. They were then framed by white sashing, then a border made from squares cut from a jelly roll. After some umming and ahhing I decided to finish off with a wide white border.

Then it came to quilting it. The centre of the quilt was quilted using stitch in the ditch. The border looked too big and plain to me. I ummed and ahhed some more. Would it look better left plain or with some kind of meandering pattern?

Mike said plain.

I thought otherwise.

I went for an "it's-not-really-anything-in-particular-it's-just-a-meandering-improvised-pattern" and it looks good!

I decided on a patterned backing which I much prefer to plain. I think it's worked well.

And I made the binding by cutting short lengths of jelly roll using the same fabric design.

It started off measuring 37.5" x 45" and after washing is now measuring 31.5" x 41". That should be all the shrinkage taken care of!

Oh, and in case you're wondering, the fabric is from the Candy Kisses range by Moda. Isn't it lovely?

So there it is all made, washed and ready for the new owner to take home and snuggle into.

If she can prise it out of my hands.

I hope she'll love it as much as I do.
